Sometimes a quick trip is just what you need for a change of scenery. Recently, we decided to head down to Jacksonville, FL for a weekend visit — and although things didn’t go quite as planned, we still had a nice time making the most of it.
We stayed at the Wyndham Garden Hotel, which was a bit different from our usual choice but super affordable at about $70 a night. It was a cozy and comfortable spot to rest after a long day of exploring, and honestly, that’s all we really needed.
The next morning, we grabbed breakfast at Another Broken Egg CafĂ©. It was such a tasty way to start the day — you can never go wrong with a good breakfast! Then we hit up IKEA — a must-do for me since we don’t have one in Macon — and browsed some of the other retail shops around town. It felt so good to do a bit of shopping, and I treated myself to a few new clothes.
That evening, we wrapped up our day with dinner at LongHorn Steakhouse. Even though they’re famous for their steaks, I decided to try the salmon and shrimp combo. Let me tell you — it was delicious, especially after all that walking and shopping!
The main reason for this trip was to see my aunt, uncle, and their family who had come all the way from Seattle, WA. But unfortunately, we missed each other due to a bit of miscommunication. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed — I truly wished we could have caught up — but I’m choosing to focus on the positive memories we did make.
All in all, Jacksonville gave us a cozy hotel stay, good food, a little retail therapy, and some sunshine, and that’s more than enough to be thankful for. Hopefully, we’ll catch up with my relatives next time they’re on this coast.
