My Daughter, My Blessing
God only gave me one child, my one and only daughter. To this day, I believe it was His way of telling me, “This one is all you need.” Watching her grow into the strong, beautiful, grown-ass woman she is today reminds me just how far we’ve come together — and trust me, it wasn’t easy.
Raising a child as a single parent is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. Especially without much education myself, I was constantly learning as I went. I didn’t always have the right answers, but I had my faith in The Most High and an unshakable commitment to give her a better life. I always told her, “Education is the key.” Even though my own schooling was limited, I knew if she focused on her studies, she could open doors I never could.
Growing up, we moved a lot — too much, if I’m honest. Every time we had to pack up and go, I worried what it was doing to her. But through all the hardships, one thing never wavered: my determination to do right by her. And we weren’t alone. I am forever grateful to the friends who helped us along the way. Without their hands reaching out when we needed them most, I don’t know where we’d be.
There were days when I felt scared and unprepared. Being a single mom can feel like you’re carrying the world on your shoulders. But by the grace of The Most High, we survived those hard times. My daughter grew up knowing that even if we didn’t have much, we had each other — and that was more than enough.
Looking at her now, all grown up, I’m reminded that struggles make us strong. Our story isn’t perfect, but it’s real. Every sacrifice was worth it. Every late-night worry, every move, every lesson about the value of education — it shaped the amazing woman she is today.
And I couldn’t be more proud.
