A Cool Morning at Tybee Island: A Simple, Happy Stop on the Way

On our way to Jacksonville, Florida, we made a little stop that has stayed with me — Tybee Island Beach in Savannah, Georgia. It wasn’t planned as a big event or a long stay. Just a moment to stretch, to breathe, and to enjoy the ocean before continuing our journey south.

It was early in the morning, and the air was cool, almost cold. The kind of breeze that makes you pull your jacket just a little tighter. But that didn’t seem to bother anyone. My daughter Jamie and her friend Jalisa were with me, and despite the chill, they seemed genuinely happy to be there. They laughed, took in the salty air, and embraced the beauty of that quiet morning. It was simple, but it was joy.

And of course, I enjoyed the moment too. Sometimes the most memorable parts of a trip aren’t the grand destinations but the small, unexpected pauses along the way. Tybee Island gave us that — a peaceful stop, the sound of the waves, and a snapshot of happiness I’ll always hold close.

Looking back, I’m grateful we didn’t rush past it. I’m grateful we took the time to enjoy that morning, cold air and all. It’s a reminder that life’s sweetest moments often come when we slow down, when we pause to feel the sand beneath our feet and the company of those we love.
